Sheron Cardin's Input...: June 2007

I have been an interior designer for over 27 years and I have always taught my clients the principles I used while decorating their home so they may enjoy decorating too. The home staging trend in residential real estate is a great way to reach more people every day and what I enjoy the most is they are learning the basics of good design through staging. It is my dream for every person to know the joy and pride of living in a decorated home.

And as for the rest of us, we have moved on...

If it were up to me I would have passed right by all the infighting going on here because it literally means nothing to most of us. I am the oldest of 8 children and you guessed it...if it wasn't my fight, I had no interest in it. But if the fight blocked the TV and I was watching my show then I would have to put an end to the fight or ask that they take it somewhere else.

I believe most of us would rather get a hot tip that can bring happy tears to our clients eye than stand around the school yard watching someone else's fight.

I decided to feature the whole darn thing so you all can sit and read about it and then be done with it.

Thank God Christopher Columbus wasn't a control freak or we would have to still be giving him credit for the roof over our heads and the neighbors we meet because if it wasn't for him, none of us would be here.

Many sayings come to mind but for today I will use "This too shall pass"

Using Staging Techniques for Dinner Parties

Sometimes in performing the normal tasks of running a business, you will come across an idea that really hadn't occurred to you before and it is like putting a banana on top of your head, so to speak. It's like "What is this?" And as amazed as I am it makes perfectly good sense...

great dinner party

The Dinner Party Planning Site is one of my busiest affiliates, if not the busiest. This gal is a go-getter and is doing all the thinking for her customers by using 'out of the box' techniques like home staging instructions as guidelines for the preparation of a party. I get more hits from her site than any other and she is not even in the real estate or decorating business so go figure.

My hats off to you Joanie Williams and here is a big thank you from me. I hope you get lots of hits from this post.

Feng Shui Journal from a Decorator's Point of View: The Tale of Two Hearts!

yinyang I was really thrown looking for the next step to take in my bedroom after the phenomenal success of my Feng Shui'ed "Love Stone's"  Well...a couple of flirtations at best but still a sign of good times to come.

The next logical step to me would be to move my bed (which I cannot and I will tell you that story if I ever find that part again) and then the issue of the master bath door opening is running in the back of my mind, or the color of the walls...surely there is more information as what to do for my Chi! Is it too much to expect a logical sequence of events to occur? Surely they know who they are talking to don't they?

Nada! If you want to turn the heat up in your south east sector bedroom (without turning it into a full blown brothel - see Bagua below...my bedroom is in the money sector SE) and IF your kitchen is in the LOVE ZONE which mine is, then you are supposed to paint your kitchen pink! PINK! Uh, I don't think so. Mauve may have made Target a household name back in the day but please! But wait...it also says red accents can help. Alright, I already have many red accents so I need to get beyond the first couple of hints here...like; this isn't working for me yet!

FS Bagua

Think pairs. Think in two's the master says. Hang pictures with two birds entwined or how about displaying some pink flamingos? Oi...

flamingos

Let's see, I can display my salt and pepper shakers, that's a pair. My painting has red in it but only one palm tree trunk...should I add another trunk?

I could. I have two benches on either side of the table...do I have enough two's going on I wonder? Well, I guess not or I wouldn't be Feng Shuiing!

Is it me or am I supposed to redecorate my kitchen or my bedroom?

Trying to get back to my original focus of heating up my love life, I pull my FS folder out and lay it in front of me again. So where did I leave off? Oh darn...I was using the e-book on my desktop...so I open the e-book called Feng Shui for Love and...

Oh no! If I am single I need to throw out all gloves or socks that are missing a match because this is bad Feng Shui for love! And here I thought they made great rags...could this little practicality be causing my troubles? And always make sure the shoes in my closet are lined up neatly with their match as clutter with shoes can cause disruptions in my relationships... FYI; I don't keep shoes in my closet but let me show you what the shoes do look like in my garage and I am not going to touch up the photo either...

shoes OK so I see that this could be the source of a problem with my family who thinks they needs shoes for every 5 minutes of their lives and do not know how to put them back on the shelves...maybe decluttering family members is in order?

I'm not getting anywhere!

So am reading on and understand about pairs of ducks, birds, dolphins, anything living and a relationship would suggest that pairing is on my mind to all who enter and THAT could suggest something to strangers but my family? They will want to know what is going on...

LAVA LAMPS? A PAIR OF RED OR PINK LAVA LAMPS WILL ENHANCE MY PROSPECTS???lava lamps lava lamps

Can you imagine...why not lava lamp wallpaper or fabric for my windows...lava lamp wallpaperwould that prove my commitment?  Maybe I can just forget about it all and concentrate on the bubbles for hours on end and watch time pass me by...I remember this all used to work for me in the 70's but...common!

I think I need a drink! No, I am sure of it! I wonder what Feng Shui would look like after a couple of Mojito's?

And before I go on here, I remember getting a newsletter from a Feng Shui person finally letting me know what color to paint my front door and I just have to go find that right now because it was very important as to how my good Chi can enter my house to begin with...here it is; ah, my front door faces north and to attract all the good Chi I possibly can, I am supposed to paint it what! BRIGHT WHITE! Again, I don't think so! What on earth am I going to do with pink hearts, mating birds, lava lamps, and a bright white front door?

Breathing deeply and slowly now, I am going to cut out 2 RED paper hearts and put them between my mattress and box springs making sure not to displace my Chakra crystals (leftover from the 80's) so only I know they are there...throwing in a pair of red hearts for good measure.

The more I read, the more I see RED as the important color for many things. As I am Gooling for some creative ideas for RED hearts, I learn that RED envelopes can work too so I can put 2 plain hearts inside a RED envelope like these red envelopeswhich is very cool. I like this idea so that is what I am going to do. OK, so...why am I doing this? Oh yes, happiness and joy...but wait, that is not what I am trying to do and I am lost. Where is the purpose for the pink hearts? I can't find the reason but I am going to make some pink hearts and put them in a piece of red construction paper stapled shut and stuff it under my mattress...OK, done! No decorating challenge here so no picture to show...but I do feel a little anticipation.

All this and a golden one arm waving cat for prosperity coming in the mail but by bedroom still looks the same. Pink hearts hidden away, faux stones holding my lucky bamboo in place...seems like a dead end.

I want to paint my walls, add texture, bamboo, lighting, floor mats and pillows, all the delicious Zen lines that I yearn for yet I want to develop the room with all the forces of nature in alignment as well, but oh it is far from this I am afraid.

As determined as I am to pull together some kind of logic and straight forward thinking from Feng Shui principles into my life without looking like a Chinese restaurant, I am going to need a little help from my FS friends to keep me focused!

To be continued...

Decisions, decisions, decisions!

OK, being the editor of Stage It Forward is HUGE. First I had so many featured posts that there were only a few spaces for the newer posts popping up so...

I had to rethink and rethink and hunt and search and...well you can imagine how different this can be from just reading, commenting, and writing posts. Like Kimberly said in her outgoing post; it is hard to find what not to feature. That is the truth!

So post away stagers! Today on the first day of June there were 25 new posts to choose from so far. We have the best of the best right here in Active Rain!
