Sheron Cardin's Input...: Any Baby Boomer's Out There?

I have been an interior designer for over 27 years and I have always taught my clients the principles I used while decorating their home so they may enjoy decorating too. The home staging trend in residential real estate is a great way to reach more people every day and what I enjoy the most is they are learning the basics of good design through staging. It is my dream for every person to know the joy and pride of living in a decorated home.

Any Baby Boomer's Out There?

american bandstand Do we need another group? No, we don't. But do we want one? Will we forget it is here??? I think it would be a kick and we won't have to bore the whole membership with our uniqueness.

Some of us have been kicking around the idea of a group for 'baby boomer's'. Are you a baby boomer? Don't know? Click on this link and then let me know.

If there are enough of us then I will start the American Bandstand group.

It would also be a great place to swap AB stories, cruising the blvd, drive-in hamburgers, photos of old hairstyles, etc.

Leave your comment before you forget...:)

And if you need some inspiration, watch this video

Wait a minute...was that the generation of no commitment? What kind of responses are these? We are all going to Val's house and watch old tapes of American Bandstand.

Boom away Sheron, I am ready.  You know I am dying to share my 57 Chevy stories!  Also, because of the movie Hairspray, BIG hair is coming back, along with glaring eyeshadow and light color lipstick.  I am totally all over that, if for no other reason that I was able to do my hair and makeup back in the 60's and haven't been able to do so since!  My husband is from Norway and younger than I.  He has no point of reference for that era and finds it GROSS.  I can't wait to WOW him with my new big hair and makeup.  Think I might look a little overdone for almost 60?  Well it will be fun to try it out.  And certainly will look better than wrinkled tatoos.  Mine are on areas of my body that are still smooth :-)

Sheron, you know I'm there!  Ah, the GOOD old days.  When we all knew our neighbors, doors were never locked, we went outside to play---I still have my 45's AND I have something to play them on!  We had a milkman and I had one for my kids before they stopped coming.  I saved one old milk bottle.  Start the group, the post and link are terrific and the group will be as well!

Ouch!!!!  I'm a Boomer!  LOL

That's ok though.  Life was simpler, things were more transparent and there didn't seem to be so many 'gimme' groups.

Count me in!!!

I'm in!! Did you ever see the tv series on NBC called American Dreams? It was based in Philadelphia in the 60's and the main character Beth was a teen who danced on American Bandstand. They also used current stars to perform as singers that were on in the past. My daughter who is now 16 just loved it! That's because she grew up listening to Motown, my personal favorite type of music. I was so sad to see the series canceled but we have the DVD set.

Sheron..this would be a great idea...maybe with everyone recounting their experiences of the sixties I can begin to regain my memory of them...You know what they say, "if you can remember the sixties..you weren't there."  So were you like a valley girl?

Sheron, Of course I'm in. How could I not be? I'm so hoping Terry shows us pictures of big hair and tattoos. You can show us your time on American Bandstand. And who knows what the confessor of male staging will have to add. I bet it will be great.

James, I looked this up just for you -- Pitomba may be either of two kinds of fruit tree native to South America:

Betty - I so can't wait to see them

Carol - it won't feel so bad when it is just us. We might need to see some IDs!

Rhonda - I did not watch that one...you can fill us in. And I am totally oldies and Motown all the way.

James - I wore patent leather shoes and we were against the surfers. What more can I say...car clubs vs. woodies and they parted their hair on the side...now that was dorky. Sorry surfers but greasers rule!

Sheron,

I am SO in!  I still tease my hair and have always favored light shades of lipstick, so I would like to be the "Beauty Editor"....LOL!

All kidding aside (although I really do tease and wear light lipstick!), let me know if you need any help.  Now, if we can figure out a way to get those MIckey Mouse Club VHS tapes put in a format that I could share with everyone on the internet.....

And I'm listening to the Beach Boy's Greatest Hits as I write this....how appropriate it THAT?!

Be still my heart Val. I can't wait to talk about the way Chubby Checker does the twist and pompadores (spelling?)will never go out of style.

When I was a beverage broker (don't ask) there was a bit about the main ingredient on CNN so I taped the segment and then took it to a production business where they edited tapes etc. They will edit and break out the different segments and convert them to disc for you. Then we can just copy them. (is this illegal?)

Hi Sheron, My wife is a baby boomer, not me.  I was born early in the war (WWII).  I already get social security and am only a couple of months away from medicare . . . and I am way younger than my parents were at this age.  Wait a minute, my dad never made it to this age.  Anyway, interesting link.

Terry - you crack me up!  Will we get any work done at all?

David - well then you can fill us in on a few things like Frank Sinatra groupies...we won't leave you out. We were probably pining over guys your age anyway and now we can talk with one up close and personal.

Posted by Sheron Cardin, ARTIST - A Home Stager/Sellers Best Friend! (California Moods Inc) over 11 years ago
No Sheron we won't get any work done, but we'll get points for blogging and commenting :-) and have a great time!  Who needs work anyway?  Its so overrated!

Oh I don't need to look at any link to know I am BOOMED! I am now officially CLOSER to 60 than 50. I got one of those AARP cards right after I turned 50 (before I decided it really wasn't an organization for me). I get 5% off on Tuesday at SaveMart Grocery stores... but it's a little crowded on these days--full of seniors! LOL     Anyway, I'm okay with being a boomer (55), I just say BRING ON ALL THE DISCOUNTS YOU CAN GIVE ME.  I'm here with open arms.

Hi Kat - don't forget your discount at the movies :)

Karen - what is Happy Hollister???

Posted by Sheron Cardin, ARTIST - A Home Stager/Sellers Best Friend! (California Moods Inc) over 11 years ago
The Happy Hollister's was a book series, like hardy boys, but they were a family with 7 kids (I think)  and they always stumbled on these great mysteries to solve with "Happy" endings, of course.

This is great - I  think I don't qualify but I was born at the very end of that era and recall some of what you are sharing - as as child.  Mostly I remember my Mom and how she looked.  When I first started stagingand went to my first convention, I was the youngest person in the room.  For the next 2 years, I was the youngest.  That is not true anymore.  But I believe that the industry of Staging as a business (not as a Realtor) was really driven by women (sorry guys) that had finished one career (work or raising families) - and then wanted to do "something" more with their lives.  They were creative - had a flair or passion for decorating and helping others - and then found Staging.  Realtors that were doing it all along - also latched onto it even more as a service - and now here we are.

I started when I was 36 - and am 42 now.  I actually began "staging" as a child - but who called it that - back then it was rearranging my room every month.  So this is a great blog - it brings to light the honor that the older gals deserve - and you'll have some fun to reminiscing.  For me - I miss the days of my childhood - I remember watching our black and white TV, we had 3 channels, and I remember watching some war (Vietnam?- hey I was like 6 or something) on it in our family room.  The Wizard of Oz or Sound of Music on TV was a BIG deal. I had metal skates, little supervision as a kid exploring the hills and fields around our house, and fond memories of a "childhood" - not an "activity-hood."

As a mom today - we indulge our 4 kids in sports - I am actually late right now to one of 3 soccer games today (child 4 played basketball this fall and his season is over). They have no true concept of "waiting" - because we have instant access to any topic via the internet, microwaves, and ATMs. They have games at their fingertips.  Life is much more fast paced - and people think they have to doing and going places all the time.  Sometimes it is good to just slow down and remember . . .

I will stop by for a peek once in a while . . .have fun!

Millions of baby boomers have homes with equity and will be considering a move to a new home that meets their changing needs. This segment should be part of almost every agent's marketing strategy.
