Sheron Cardin's Input...: A List Of Ten Pledges For Us

I have been an interior designer for over 27 years and I have always taught my clients the principles I used while decorating their home so they may enjoy decorating too. The home staging trend in residential real estate is a great way to reach more people every day and what I enjoy the most is they are learning the basics of good design through staging. It is my dream for every person to know the joy and pride of living in a decorated home.

A List Of Ten Pledges For Us

PledgeEvery year I try to start anew, I look back on the year passing to find ways to improve my life, my experience, my world.

When I read the following list, it occurred to me that maybe a promise to myself would work better than a promise to the treadmill or a lock on the fridge, or finding a new chant or wanting more of something...or less.

I want to share it with you. The list was sent to me by my sister who received it without information as to its source but they request to have the list passed on...I agree and think you will too.

Ten Things I pledge To Myself

  1. I pledge to "show up" in my life as myself, not as an imitation of anyone else.
  2. I pledge to avoid using the word "just" to describe myself. For example, I won't say "I'm just a mother," or "I'm just a student", or "I'm just an ordinary person."
  3. I pledge to give myself 10 minutes of silence and stillness everyday to get in touch with my heart and hear my own voice.
  4. I pledge to use my voice to connect my dreams to actions.
  5. I pledge to serve my community at least once a year in a way that will benefit other women (men, children).
  6. I pledge to use my voice to empower myself and others
  7. I pledge to ask myself, "who am i? What do I believe in" What am I grateful for? What do I want my life to stand for?
  8. I pledge to sit down and write my own mission statement.
  9. I pledge to live my own legacy.
  10. And I pledge to pass it on.

Namaste

Great post.  Now print it, and post it on your mirror.  Turn it into a .jpg and use it as your computer wallpaper!

Hey Gregory - I did print it but it is way to much all at once so I have cut it into strips and have stuck them up all over the place. It is the only way I can make a change. I like the idea of turning it into wallpaper...will give it a try...never heard of doing that before...thanks!

Sheron, Those are all excellent pledges to make for yourself.  Sounds GREAT>

Sheron, What a great list, I'm sure there's a few things in there most of us are forgetting.  I can certainly print it out but turning it into a jpeg?  I'd need a kid to come over :)

Sheron, on a MAC, I used the "Grab" application.  On a PC, I'd guess you'd do a screen capture.  I've emailed you a jpg file.  I hope it will help you in the coming year!  Cheers, Gregory

Kay - the first pledge is a full time job! The rest not so hard.

Carole - Gregory sent me one to print out. I can forward it to you and anyone else that would like one. It has a typo which will drive me crazy but for now it is ready. Just let me know

Gregory - thank you for doing that. Can you do it again without the typo?

Sheron, if you're running a newer version of Windows, like XP or Vista you should be able to convert using the "save as" option.  Then below where you type in the name of the file is a drop down menu and jpg should be an option.  See how savvy I am and I'm still running Windows 98!  Anyway, I like your pledges.  I only have one pledge this year and its to not confront my neighbor for shooting off illegal fireworks everytime the wind changes direction.  I pledge to call the police and let them yell at him :-)

Really great stuff!  I think I'll copy it and print it out for my bathroom mirror...  then repeat daily!

In line with pledge #1, there is a song by Christian artist Sara Groves called, "Just Showed Up For My Own Life".... below are some of the lyrics (thanks to onlylyrics.com).  I have the CD and it is incredible.  This song always puts a smile on my face.

Spending my time sleep walking
Moving my mouth but not saying a thing
Hoping the changes would take by working their way from the outside in
I was in love with an idea
Preoccupied with how a life should appear
Spending my time at the surface repairing the holes in the shiny veneer

There are so many ways to hide
There are so many ways not to feel
There are so many ways to deny what is real

And I just showed up for my own life
And I'm standing here taking it in and it sure looks bright

I'm going to live my life inspired
Look for the holy in the common place
Open the windows and feel all that's honest and real until I'm truly amazed
I'm going to feel all my emotions
I'm going to look you in the eyes
I'm going to listen and hear until it's finally clear and it changes our lives

If you are looking for inspirational beautiful music, this CD is it!  Good luck on your goals for 2008!

Terry ~ you are a woman without limits!

Melissa ~ I just love those words. I am going to find that song and download it. Thank you very much for all your input. I know all about that sleepwalking stuff :)

Happy New Year Sheron! I liked your number 7-  I pledge to ask myself, "Who am I? What do I believe in? What am I grateful for? What do I want my life to stand for?"  Thankfully, I know my answers to these questions and live each day to the best of my ability.  Deep thoughts, beautiful music and lots of yoga keep this gal centered....especially during stressful times! (This holiday was a bit challenging in my family....glad to be in my own space again!)

 Very nice!  Regards-Kathleen G

Sheron - The whole CD is incredibly uplifting.  Her CDs (I have 3 of them) each seem to have a theme to them.  This particular one is more emotionally motivational (some are more sprititually motivational, etc). Nearly every song on this album I will say is my favorite song on the album.  It's like when your kids are growing up. I always think whatever age they are at now is the perfect age because they are so wonderful then.

Here are some of the lyrics to my next favorite song on the album.... The name of the album, and this particular song Add to the Beauty

We come with beautiful secrets
We come with purposes written on our hearts, written on our souls
We come to every new morning
With possibilities only we can hold, that only we can hold

Redemption comes in strange place, small spaces
Calling out the best of who we are

And I want to add to the beauty
To tell a better story
I want to shine with the light
That's burning up inside

It comes in small inspirations
It brings redemption to life and work
To our lives and our work

It comes in loving community
It comes in helping a soul find it's worth

Redemption comes in strange places, small spaces
Calling out the best of who we are

And I want to add to the beauty
To tell a better story
I want to shine with the light
That's burning up inside

This is grace, an invitation to be beautiful
This is grace, an invitation

Redemption comes in strange places, small spaces
Calling out our best

And I want to add to the beauty
To tell a better story
I want to shine with the light
That's burning up inside

Sheron - Thanks!  I was also nominated for 2007 Staging Innovator of the Year.... I didn't nominate myself for either, so I'm doubly excited and honored!

I'm glad you are enjoying her music.  I had to listen to her today while I was cleaning after dropping all the lyrics in here..... made me NEED to hear the beautiful sound of her voice!  It always puts me in a good mood!

If everyone adhered to this list the world would be a better place and we might get along with each other.  We all need a list!

Sheron- This has to be a favorite post of mine that you've written - I'm owning it for myself also.  #1 is perfectly placed and #9 closes it perfectly with #10 being an outpouring...I mean it when I say, "Thank you, thank you for sharing this."  I'm printing it out and working on 1 piece at a time.

Cindy - you are so right. Every Sunday at the end of the service we would all join hands and sing "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me". Truer words were never sung :)

Jackie - how awesome for you to be on fire. Soar my friend.

This is some good stuff Sheron...Happy New Year by the way. I think as we grow older we grow wiser and we realize how precious life is and we value everything soooo much more. I am appreciating all that I have and when I am with my grandchild and I find myself starting to get impatient I tell myself these days will pass and I will miss this time but once it is gone I will never be able to recapture it. That is when I find myself slowing down, paying more attention to him and having FUN...

God bless your pledges that you may soar!!

Happy New Year Phyllis - it is so good to hear from you...many of us are spreading out so it is always so warm when we return. I love your words 'recapture" and 'paying more attention', that says a lot...thanks.

Wow Sheron - those are some pretty powerful statements.  They definitely make a person stop and think.  I love the idea of 10 minutes of 'quiet time' all to myself in order to get in touch with my 'heart'...that in itself is pretty profound!

Thanks for sharing that with all of us and Happy New Year!
