Sheron Cardin's Input...: Cardio vs. PC

I have been an interior designer for over 27 years and I have always taught my clients the principles I used while decorating their home so they may enjoy decorating too. The home staging trend in residential real estate is a great way to reach more people every day and what I enjoy the most is they are learning the basics of good design through staging. It is my dream for every person to know the joy and pride of living in a decorated home.

Cardio vs. PC

Exercise pedals I have discovered a way to pedal in the rain!

Is your back end getting as wide as your new wide screen PC? I have had an Internet business for almost 2 years now and I am taking notice the shift my body is taking...eek! Then along came Active Rain and it is confirmed...I am spending way too much time at the computer including my exercise time.

I used to live in SF and everything was tight because when you live in the City, you walk everywhere. Even at the beach you have choices or in communities where there are walking paths. I happen to live currently in the Raisin Capitol of the World filled with vineyards and coyotes. Walking here is taking your life in your own hands and walking is my form of exercise. So I bought a treadmill. Anyone have a treadmill? Mine has been in the upright position now for the last couple of months and I am getting worried. Let me see...treadmill or computer...hmmm.

While visiting my mother the other day I notice that her exercise pedals have not moved in month's and a light bulb went off...I am so racked with guilt and fear of the ill effects of sitting so much, I realized that those little pedals will fit right under my desk. Will it work? YES! It does work and I feel so much better now that I am getting my cardio up while I am reading everyone's post's and the links in those post's and commenting on those posts. So here it is...the answer to my dilemma and may even yours. Pedal to your HEARTS CONTENT and blog away.

Namaste

Get tough. Peddle standing up. You will find that you can peddle longer while eating donuts.

David - you speak from experience??? It does sound rediculous to be sitting and pedalling but...........well, think about it; this summer I can have a fan on my desk blowing fresh ocean breezes in my face while protecting my skin from the harmful sunrays...and I won't have to run from any wild dogs or coyotes and think of the money I will save on pepper spray!

Great thought. My nordic track sits in the wrong room and I sit on my tuckus in my home office. In the days when I still did floor duty I would sit and spin as though my office chair was the Abdoer and twist from side to side. Another associate had a portable stair stepper. Then there were the days we just did laps around the cubicles. Why not join a gym.... too much time away from the phone... yeah fanatic type A can't stop for personal time but have to work it into my regular day.

Hard to read when you are twisting isn't it? The pedals work great as long as you are not typing...the knees hit the keyboard shelf...other than that it gets the blood going.

"Whenever I get the urge to exercise, I lay down until it passes"...Mark Twain

Great idea...except I do not have any room in front of my desk for this....wonder how many calories I can burn off using my typing finger movements?

Thanks for reminding me that I need to get out and at least go for a walk to try to shed some pounds.

I have never seen those pedals, I am going to look tomorrow.  At my old office we used to joke that we should do lunges as we walked to the fax, copier, kitchen filled with cookies, etc.

I also read that you can use a big exercise ball instead of a chair and that will work your "core".  Knowing my coordination I will fall off and break something.

James - I am still chuckelling today from your comment. I think Mark and I fell from the same tree. That is sooooo hysterical. Thank you for that!

Gina - I think I ordered the pedals from Harriett Carter but you can get them most anywhere. I have 2 yoga balls in my closet deflated of course, right next to my bag of ironing that has been there for 2 years because I just know I want to keep what is in there! The pedals are easier!!!

Oh, so this is what you were talking about the other night!  I didn't know what the heck you were talking about - thought you were kidding!   I've got to get one of those!

Now, if we can just find something that works on the 'tush' and hips while we're seated at the computer....anyone know of a special 'chair' ?(and I'll 'bop' the first person that suggests the 'electric chair!!)
