Sheron Cardin's Input...: Decorating Tip #7 - Stop Advertising Your Products!

I have been an interior designer for over 27 years and I have always taught my clients the principles I used while decorating their home so they may enjoy decorating too. The home staging trend in residential real estate is a great way to reach more people every day and what I enjoy the most is they are learning the basics of good design through staging. It is my dream for every person to know the joy and pride of living in a decorated home.

Decorating Tip #7 - Stop Advertising Your Products!

A simple change can make all the difference in the world.

Nothing is uglier than a bottle of Dawn Liquid Soap sitting on the kitchen counter or a box of Tide on your dryer.

 Tide logo     dawn     prell

The first sign of good taste in decorating is decorative containers for your household supplies, cleaners, and personal hygene products.

box         soap        soap

It is very affordable to buy decorative pump bottles and boxes and they make a world of difference. Just by adding one decorative container a week at a cost of about $10, within a few weeks you can achieve a more decorated look to your home and your experience of your home as well. (The box is a little fancy but you get my point)

I agree! Tide on the dryer and towels on the oven door just bug me, don't do that people. It's like wearing a watch for a formal picture. What are you advertising?

I tell my clients to purchase those great canvas totes to hide all that stuff...It gives a nice organized feel to the laundry room as well. Great tip!

Hey Judy - here are your tips that are missing. I deleted #1 because it didn't make sense. It was about installing a drying rack in the laundry room but most people cannot do that. I for one would love it. Thanks everyone!

ok, i agree...but my question is fo you stage a home that  a single man owns differantly than you do for single or married women? If so how? The three props above are a little foofey for most men.

Ohhhh... sorry for the "senior moment", I have in fact read all of them.  Thanks Sheron!

I am glad you have Judy :)

Danny - men are actually easier to please...throw in some leather boxes, chrome pumps, and a wall mounted shower soap dispenser and your good to go...I will take some real photo's later this morning and put them in this space for you...as soon as everyone wakes up around here ;)

Here you go Danny...you can order these items from Bed Bath and Beyond...

Bath ensemble   laundry    trash

Bath accessories, laundry baskets, and trash cans. As for laundry soap, men should use liquid...it is not so messy.

While I like keeping EVERYTHING tucked away, this is a great idea.
